  • @chuerowrench. Yes, this is Van Halen but it couldn't have been way back when they were doing covers in the SFV. This song was written long after they became famous! I expect that it is a tribute to Ronnie James Dio.

  • @lverock This song was written in 1975. This performance is from late 1975. It is NOT a tribute; just a cover.

  • is thi s a tribute to Ronny James Dio?

  • @Syzygy60 No.

  • This is Van Halen. Called themselves Mammoth (at least sometimes) way back when they were doing covers in the San Fernando Valley. This is likely before their first album. Eddie used to play his solos with his back to the audience so no one would steal his licks. Backyard parties that went on till the keg ran out or the cops shut it down. Good times.

  • Watching it on south park

  • @chuercowrench I heard they played at my High School (Clairemont High in San Diego) back when they were doing So Cal stuff.. Don't know if it's fact. Would have been cool though. Must've been mid 70s I'm guessing.

  • @frez777 yes!!

  • Rainbow is the band......

  • I would never have guessed they would ever make a cover of this song, actually quite good :-)

  • This is pre-finger tapping Eddie.

  • @lverock ????? Man on a Silver Mountain was on the 1st Rainbow Album release in the summer of 1975? why do you say it was released way after Van Halen was famous???

  • @lverock NO! Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow LP came out in '75. Long before anyone ever heard of VH. This cover version sucks out loud, by the way - and it ain't the recording quality, either.

  • @Syzygy60 Ritchie Blackmore

  • the club day's would've been something to see. lot's of looking at a player (eddie) with our jaw's dropping.
