  • Where is Warren Beatty's best director Oscar win?

  • all films nominated were good, but Chariots of Fire was a true inspiration and quite profound and artisitic for most people, i'm glad it won, it deserved it.

  • I actually think I preferred Reds in terms of sheer filmmaking and I consider it to be Warren Beatty's masterpiece, but I do think Chariots of Fire was a worthy winner and a deserving upset choice.

  • @cyberlucy

I think it's disingenuous to deprive great entertainments like Raiders of the Lost Ark of the "art" label simply because they're entertainments. Raiders of the Lost Ark wasn't innovative, but neither was Chariots of Fire, or anything else nominated that year, really. Both Raiders and Chariots, however, represent their types executed at the highest possible level. I'd have preferred "Raiders" but there's no shame with "Chariots" winning.

  • i dont think Beatty was suprised he lost. His movie had 12 nominations - and going into the best picture award it had lost in 8 - 2 categories to Chariots, 3 to Raiders and 2 to Golden Pond. It was 9 years since there was a best picture/director split so this was overdue. He has said since once the award for screenplay, editing and actress had gone to other best nominees he was sure one of them would win.

  • Raider's of the Lost Arc wasn't exactly art. It was a money maker from start to finish. There was nothing new about it. It was like dozens of other films produced when Spielberg and Lucas were kids. If there was anything that you could call innovative about it would be the special effects. The Academy made the right choice here. It was an amazing film

  • wtf. raiders obviously should have won

  • @RAAM90 no raiders no raiders of the lost ark is 100 times better

  • I remember this broadcast! Loved "Chariots of Fire". The music was beautiful.

  • Also, if you believe Estelle Parsons, there's a more cynical reason why Reds didn't win- according to her, and I quote, "the Academy hates Warren Beatty."

  • @vadimzdonutube I totally agree with you.

  • @vadimzdonutube I totally agree with you.
