Uncharted 2: Among Thieves Review (PS3)

Naughty Dog's Uncharted 2: Among Thieves deftly blends platforming and shooting, and sets the standard for action games. The core mechanics work amazingly well and weave together as to become indistinguishable from each other at times. You'll be platforming while shooting, and shooting while platforming, and then occasionally stopping to take in the breathtaking scenery or solve a puzzle. The game moves along at a brilliant pace. I never, not once, felt bored, or lost, or frustrated. I never even wanted to put down the controller. The plot is a pulpy Indiana Jones riff, with twists and intriguing characters. The dialog is expertly written, and the voice acting is absolutely stellar. Robust co-operative and competitive multiplayer modes add longevity to Uncharted 2, and it's likely a healthy community will keep these going due to their uniqueness. Uncharted 2 is everything an action game should be without any of the garbage it shouldn't be. Simply put, a PS3 without Uncharted 2 really isn't a PS3.

Man, I really wanted to play this one, but I'm still waiting for Sony to put BC back into the new PS3s... Is it a lost cause? :(

In any case, I think it's also important to point out that the t in the word "often" is actually intended to be silent, like the t in "listen."

"Often" is an anomaly; the original intended pronunciation was to actually pronounce the "T," which is unlike "listen." Over time, the "T" sound was lost because the sounds were simply blended together and easier to speak. When literacy rates rose, and people actually knew how the word was spelled, the "T" sound was restored. Because of its history, both pronunciations are acceptable. "Often" is the extended form of "oft," after all, and we pronounce the "T" in that word. :)

@StephsTooDef Yeah, the constant need to download updates is the only problem that I've noticed with the PS3, apart from the new ones not having backwards compatibility with PS2 games. Wii is the worst console IMO, but at least it's compatible with Gamecube games.

Uncharted 2 is my favorite game on the PS3 and this year. I can't stop playing the multi-player. It's just too much fun
