Very exclusive 4-stroke model engine with 2 opposed pistons in glass cylinders. The combustion fires are well visible through the glass.

  • very nice model

    how they built the ignition?

  • @MrLouitschi

I use a self made mini ignition system made from a circuit out of a gas lighter. You can read all about that on my web site: type my name on Google Search and my site is on top of the list (typing URL's is not allowed in this text box).

Go to the chapter "internal combustion engines" and then to the concerning page for this ignition system.

    Friendly greetings from Holland,

    Jan Ridders

  • wow, what rpm was it running at.

  • @spark300c

I didnot measure the rpm yet; I think it is about 1200 rpm.

  • Hij is mooi Jan. Ik kom hem nog wel een keer echt kijken!

  • Now that is a loverly little work of art :-)

    Very nice design and build.

Got to say I was questioning what the strength of the cylinders would be after a long run time.... But you have mostly addressed that below. Now to find some similar glass tubing and store it till I get the time to have a go!

Also have stirlings on my "list". :-)

  • @N9155E

I have no idea of the efficiency and efficiency is not an item at all with this kind of non pragmatic models.

    Friendly greetings,

    Jan Ridders

  • 1. Compliment for this little "Hellfire"-engine!

    2. Just a pragmatic question: what might be the thermal efficiency compared to the regular boxer (horizontally opposed pistons) engined with two cylinders?
