Cuban Healthcare Surpasses USA

Cuba has had to be frugal in every aspect of the word to cover all their citizens. Cubas health system is unique in the world. Built on a strong foundation in primary care, Cuba provides comprehensive health care to all residents of the island. Given extremely limited resources Cuba has amassed an impressive set of accomplishments in public health. Most health care is delivered by family physicians. Family doctors are responsible for a defined community and they typically live above (or near) the small consultorios located in the neighborhood they serve. A given physician can care for some 800 people in the five blocks surrounding their consultorio. During the mornings they can see patients in the clinic; and in the afternoon perform home visits.

Cuba currently has over 2000 health professionals providing aid in 57 countries. They have served over 4 million patients. Cubans have lived on rations, limited government services and a crippled foreign trade due directly to the immoral American economic embargo; yet have ensured that their restricted foreign income is put to maximum use.

Neither Cuba nor the US have leading health care systems on a nationwide scale.

Cuba has good training and terrible execution and operations and supply chain management. Besides, Cuba's system is - as in any communist system - completely unequal.

The US lacks universal health care on a nationwide scale. Being a country of extremes, you can find the best and the worst in the US.

To speak of the Cuban system "surpassing" the US system is complete nonsense.
