My experience at Pitt (Nov) was worse than bdentre, though. I was in the hospital for 15 days (should be 3-5), because the bedside surgeon-ess broke three ribs on the way in, and I got a hemothorax causing me to have a second thoracic surgery 5 days later. I needed many units of blood. Instead of Mitral Regurge, I now have tricuspid regurge.I had 1 xrays 2 CT scans during my stay, and now my R lung has no air in the bottom 1/4.I have a large groin clot, numb R thigh. Can't recommend this team.
I had a mitral valve repair by Dr. W. Randolph Chitwood, using techniques similar to these. I can not thank him enough for pioneering this technique and saving me a sternotomy. My surgery was a week ago today. I am off all pain meds., walked 6 miles yesterday and 4 miles today. I literally jogged across a parking lot today, totally pain free, before I sat down in the car and remembered the surgery. I don't think the doctor would like that!
