So, i think you're onto something. Ideally, you would have access to each of the tracks, like the vocals, piano, etc. that you could manipulate and let run clean at times over good beats, etc.

I think here you mainly only have access to the track as a whole and can only chop it and the like, which sort of makes it loose the original feel.

Also, it may be best to have the beats also help convey the serious and perhaps sorrowful feeling of the original.

its almost impossible for me to find or at least isolate the individual instruments/ryhtms here, that was actually the first thing i was trying to do by trying to isolate certain waves and frequencies...the result is a horrible distorted piano or vocal.

This wasn't a project though, more along the lines of just messing around and creating this, if it was a project i would have spent much much much more needed time on it, but thank you for the insightful comment.
