NS 388 rolls east with a Catfish/Catfish/GEVO/Catfish combo. Note the horn on the lead unit, which is a rare Canadian-style K5L horn. It sounds very similar to the horn found on select few Amtrak units.

  • nice canadian K5, although it maybe a bit out of tune, but it still seems to make a nice sound:)

  • I loved it! I thought it sounded great. It actually sounds like an Amtrak is coming at first, as some Genesis units (i.e. 44, 161) have K5H/K5L horns like this one here.

  • 20 does. theres only about maybe 6 K5Ls though. theres a larger number of hybrids, but obviously the dominant horn on the P42s is the K5LA.

  • I think Amtrak #115 has a K5L horn, too.

  • really? thanks for telling me, ill check it out.

  • I actually have a video of AMTK P42DC #85 on the Empire Builder with a K5LA Hybrid horn. Just as what were you talking about.

  • yeah, then there are the ones with the mysterious hybrids that have the canadian 3 bell and american 4 bell. those make a cool sound too.
