i know of suzuki's really bad corrosion problems, did they fix them yet? my neighbor and friend have the same problem on two different hp motors...they just corrode like cast iron and they both flush them every time used in salt water. i know they both said they never had any other problems and the motors were very quiet and powerful. i even drove my friends 115 suzuki and it's almost as powerful as my evinrude two stroke...that says alot for a four banger

Got a df 90 and its great ....and no cam belts to worry about

Actually Suzuki 's make the best work horse motor out there... They"re rated highest in many articles for power and longevity... This being said I own a go fast boat with a 225 EFI Mercury and it's faster than anything my size with the same power but I wouldn't use on a SeaTow boat...

I've had Mercurys in the past, now a DF150. It's a beast in sheep's clothing, there is no comparison. The Mercs have been good, but Suzuki is better. Merc has lots more dealers and mechanics, that's the upside to Merc. We considered Etec but at the end of the day, the Suzuki runs so much quieter.
I hope our luck holds out.

Suzuki outboards are the best on the water. Power to weight ratios are best in industry for most models.
Hi Douro20. That is a hard one to answer but your best bet is to contact NIAID directly for a specific figure. Being a RIB and a planing hull it does not displace much compared to a displacement hull. I also believe it has a variable deadrise which means it may sit a little deeper at rest than a deep vee planing hull. However the tubes would add to the buoyancy. Like I said it's a tough one.

Hi Fishaholic. I am not aware of corrosion problems. Was that DF115 and what age? Generally if the engines are maintained by the user and serviced according to the schedule then there should not be a corrosion issue. In Australia we have engines still working commercially after thousands of hours of use. I think 12,000 hours is our record... Suzuki AU

Maintenance free oil bathed timing chain instead of a cam belt. World's best...

Have a look at worldsbest4stroke and click on the fuel figures link on the Df300 page. This show a real example of fuel usage figures and various revs.

These engines have now done thousands of hours use and are currently in Byron Bay on the same hull running another whale watching charter.

They are known as the "world's best 4-stroke" in Australia and we do find the owners of the Suzukis are very very happy with them.
