So what kind of toy do you give a 600 pound baby elephant? How about a 2-foot round blue plastic ball? Enrichment items such as Boomer balls are commonplace in zoos today. These toys and activities add variety and exercise to the animals lives and help to encourage their natural behaviors. As for Beco and his Boomer Ball that enrichment has double benefits it also helps mom Phoebe get a break from looking after 600 pounds of bouncing baby elephant energy.

The Columbus Zoo and Aquarium is open 363 days a year 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day, and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. after Labor Day. • Hey, has beco been introduced to his big brother bodhi? I'm hoping to see them together

  • Because Bodhi is already going into musth, and young males that are initially going into musth can be particularly aggressive, we do not anticipate introducing the two.

  • I want one - the big ball, not the elephant. Well I guess the elephant would be fun too!

  • That is a cute little elephant calf.

  • i wish i could just hug you!!!!!!! Beco you are sooooooooooooo handsome!!!

  • he's watched dumbo too much (;

  • Lovely video. Please ignore the negative comments.

  • @sgauden02 IF they need to be imprisoned the LEAST we can do for them is make certain their lives include the room to roam miles per day outside on natural substrates to ensure foot health. Where are the other herd members? Sorry, this enclosure is pitifully inadequate. Wonder what will happen to this little guy when he gets aggressive. Off to the circus breeding facilities?

  • Wow, what a lovely environment for elephants....NOT.

  • Pure sweetness!! How can anyone watch this and not smile?!

  • Bless his heart. What a sweet angel

  • @pinkglove100 is delusional and uneducated. Elephants to not belong in captivity, no matter what. They are not rescued by the zoos from circus life or private owners. Those elephants go to sanctuaries. Zoos actually buy elephants from those to take them from the wild and often kill the adults to get the babies. No elephant should ever be chained. Seriously @pinkglove100...unless you know what you are talking about, don't talk. Everyone else, please Google this info on zoos, circuses.
