This is a good example of emergent gameplay in fruity frank on CPC. Normally, the goal of this game is to eat all the fruits as soon as possible in order to go to the next level. What I am showing here a quite different way to play fruity frank that involves a lot of creativity pushing apples to close an area, while exploiting the strict collision detection of the game, allowing you to throw the ball through a little hole of pixels from inside your safe nest. One can just stay there and throw the ball forever to get maximum highscore or push the entrance apple and move around the level and then go back safe again.

Some history: This way to play was inspired by the way my father used to play fruity frank several years ago. I was curiously asking in CPC forums if anyone else ever tried to play this game this way, surprisingly though I haven't heard a positive answer, thus I decided to upload this video to show the way.

My father was also building various other constructions like a big wall from up to down, traps to close the monster in caves in the upper section of the screen and many other bizarre stuff. I tried to recreate some of them but failed. I will upload more constructions when I manage to recreate them. It's not easy to move stuff and construct with all these monsters moving around and the random arrangement of the fruits and apples has to be suitable for a construction each time I start a new level.

  • What a strategic approach, very patient and accurate shooting too, nice vid

  • my favorite game

  • I still play this game often. In the 8 bit era, because of the plain graphics and sound, what was most inportant was the imagination and to find alternative ways to play a game. This vid is a precise example of that notion....Optimus your dad had captured the meaning of gaming....!
