The new addition to Saskatoon's Bethlehem Catholic High School will not be ready for classes in the fall as originally intended.
The half-finished 1.5 million dollar eastern addition that was to feature 8 new classes rooms is now gone -- destroyed this weekend by fire.
The fire broke out on the city's far west end just after 8 yesterday (Sunday) morning. Flames could be seen for blocks, shooting 50 feet in the air at times.
The structure was being built mostly from wood, so it was quickly consumed. Fire crews managed to get it out before it spread into the rest of the school, though some smoke damage is likely to the existing building. Classes have been canceled
The addition was to be completed by this fall. Rebuilding will be costly, as damage is estimated at 750 thousand dollars.
Fire investigators are trying to figure out a cause.
