The clams we had in S Fl HJ were excellent, really the best anywhere. But that wasn't all, their rolls for the hambergers and hot dogs were out of this world. As for the flounder, we used to have a Fri special, all you could eat for 99 cents during the middle 60s. There was something about food back then, it tasted better and just looked better. I have discussed this with many folks my age and they agree. Anyway, HJ was one of my favorite restaurants growing up, I do miss them so.

The clams were a little rubbery, but I always ordered them. That was followed by a chocolate sundae in one of those BIG glass goblets - the ones that even when empty weighed a ton.

It's gone now. Torn down in 2008.

The Restaurant's address is actually 300 Tarrytown Rd., and is a part of the Greenburg Library system, but it isn't exactly clear if it's a branch or not just a storage facility. Moreover the Motor Lodge was walled off and became a family shelter in the early 1990s. The former Lodge is one of several shelters

70% of my caloric intake from ages 6 - 19 were hojo's fried clams.

Damn! $1.99 bought a lot back then.
If I had a time machine, I'd go back to when HoJos were everywhere on the road, and stop in for a good meal and ice cream.
