Our three Prairie Dogs at play.. They've grown MUCH bigger since this video, though. There's Beet (little girl), Rudy (little boy) and Spud (who's actually nearing 1 year old come September 2010). Music is Honest Bob and the Factory to Dealer Incentives: You don't love me yet.

  • This makes me want PD's even more! I love how they play with your hand it's so cute.

  • That is the most random pet to have. They're adorable though.

  • they are the coolest pets ever lol. My dog is not nearly as hyper as your prairie dogs lol.

  • well, they are simply adoreable, i am in the process of trying to make a compilation of all the pics i have taken of my pixie, who i just got in may... they are the sweetest, cutest, most distructive little critters i have ever seen, and i love her soooooo much..... do you have a pic of your caging?? pixie is from new mexico.

  • @Camstatic I agree with you. The next province to us is ALL agriculture and they so not have this ban on rats. I'd love to have a rat and a PD, Watched them at the zoo on the weekend. They are so interesting. OTOH, so are rabbits (we have a Holland). Check out his vids.

I'll send a link to the rat history in Alberta.

  • @Lagolop That is weird. I mean, I live in a country with A LOT of crops and agriculture as well, and I don't think I've ever heard of anyone having problems with domesticated rats running around in them.

As for treating rats, veterinarians have a duty to help out a sick animal, and not report illegal animals. (unless you have a illegal tiger or something, but you get the idea. :P ) That's at least how it is around here.

Have rats always been illegal there, or is that something new?

  • So cute ! <3

  • is the cute little thing licking you or nibbling

  • @Camstatic I forgot to say WHY rats are illegal. The idea is that if they escaped they would create havoc with the crops, and this province is a big agriculture and ranching province. Loads of grain crops are grown here. It's a ridiculous law as the province east of us is as big in agriculture and ranching too and they are not illegal there. I wonder if our exotics vet would even be allowed to treat a domestic rat if it got sick :(

  • @Camstatic It sucks. We live in Alberta (a "rat free" province) in western Canada. We even have a "rat patrol" on our border with Montana and our border with the province east of us. Rats can't get over the continental divide (our western border). We'd love to get a ratty or 2. I wonder how they would get along with Mog.

PDs are an endangered species here, so you can't own one here. There is a huge PD town in Grasslands Nat'l Park in Saskatchewan where we have camped. Hilarious to watch them.
