just because someone is a little over weight doesn't mean he can't kick your ass.

I studied with Joan Richart for 10 years, I have a black belt. Master Richart is one of the 10 dragons, which are villari's cream of the crop. I would sometimes punch in for Master Richart while she did her techniques, and although she never touched me with any of her strikes, I could feel every intent as if her strikes actually went through me. To this day, I not only respect her, I also learned to fear her. What she could do if she intended to hurt me, I dont even want to think about it.

@wardragonprime I've heard this before. How Villari's is "watered down". What exactly do you mean by that? I ask because I have seen Villari people practice techniques that crush the esophagus, break elbows, smash groins, break necks, gouge eyes, dislocate joints, et al. Techniques that maim and are lethal. What is watered down about that?
-
The Villari system itself is good.
The problem is that several of his schools have watered down the system to appeal to the masses.
The result is a neutered fighting art.

Thank you for you reply. Let us assume you are telling the truth, since there is no way to verify it. You have had a different experience than myself. I have trained with Mr. Villari and been a uke for him. I know what the man can do. I study with two of his best students. I know what they can do. If it were possible for you to sit in on ONE lesson with them, your opinion WOULD change. Therefore I stand by my post. You don't know what you don't know. Not your fault.
-
First of all, you make a lot of assumptions about me and my training, so I'll give you a little background so that you can understand better. I trained in Villari Kenpo and associated type systems for a number of years, and obtained an advanced Black Belt rank. I have been to seminars with Mr. Villari and his teachers. I eventually LEFT that system because I could no longer, in good conscience teach what was being perpetuated because it is foolish and dangerous.

Rambamatic- I apologize if my comment upset you. I meant no insult to you or the undoubtely skilled martial artists you train with. My intent was to point out that to proclaim knowledge of something without knowing the facts is an error. I stand by my original statement. Uke for Mr. Villari and see what happens. Then your opinion will be respected. Until then the truth will remain elusive to you. Please empty your cup, for you don't know- what you don't know. Take care my friend.

Nonsense. Bad technique is bad technique. Period. I have had MANY trainers, students, and ukes to work with over the years, most of whom are MUCH better martial artists than Fred Villari ever was.
I could take 10,000 words to explain to you exactly why a technique like this will get you killed. I could also slow down that tape and narrate point by point Mr. Villari's awful techniqe. However, that would be a waste of time, as I don't think you'd learn a damn thing.
I received my Black belt in Shotokan Karate in 1996. My only reason to get a Shodan in Kempo was because I wanted to integrate Kempo into my art. I have studied Praying Mantis in the Shandong Province of the People's Republic of China. I have been in Martial arts since 1984 regardless, I will not insult you. God bless you and your family. keep training, by the way I am not a p*ssy, I just like to cross train
