Nothing makes you choose. We make be inclined to choose, but we are not driven to chose or forced to choose like animals merely out of instinct. We have inclinations, but we must reflectivly choose and look for the greater goods. So may choose a spouse based upon looks alone and this is NOT good discernment. Our intellects gives us the capacity to think so as to KNOW the TRUTH. The proper obejct of the intellect is the truth. The proper object of the WILL is the good. We choose what we know!

@jvjmj but human willfullness makes you choose the partner, which is the reason why people choose to get married.. choosing a partner is all down to one's conditions.. but bible says that love is unconditional, so my question is how does church supports something that is so wrong..

Father Jeffrey, whats the point of promising each other that they'll be faithful and care for each other, in a given circumstance, if the couple has not experienced anything like that before?Statistics show that marriages don't really work, they are conditional and it is impossible to make them work, so why would someone promise to make something impossible possible? Its a sin whn u fail to keep promises. why does the church allow couples to get married?

@interax there are marriages that happened outside the church allowed by the Church with good reason of course for its approval.. the point is, there is a proper place where marriage should take place.. and the most appropriate is in the Church.

@pjanak of course because the Bible cannot give us everything.. its very limited..  for us catholics we have 3 sources, the Bible, the Church teachings and the apostolic traditions.. and can you give a topic the Church doesn't want to address?
