  • Lascia ch'io pianga is an aria from the character Almirena(The female lead and a female soprano) So this was never written for castrato. Its based in Armida's sarabande(instrumental without voice) later Handel used the melody for Piacere's aria "Lascia la spina" from Handel's first oratorio Il trionfo del tempo e del disinganno.

  • @Heartlessiceboy I got the information from the CD booklet liner notes written by Karl Schumann. Further research agrees with you so I've stricken the castrato part of the description.
