probably still my greatest accomplishment.

i grew up in van nuys (LA). i was 4 years old, and i watched romper room all the time. one day i told my mom "i want to go there". i don't think i knew what TV was, i just wanted to go meet the kids and play with the toys.

did you know the first episode of Romper Room aired in 1953?

my mom found out the studio was like 5 miles away, so it was a no-brainer and i got on the show.

some interesting things i still remember...

- we filmed 5 episodes in 2 days. we even changed our clothes so it looked like we filmed on separate days.
- during the taping, they showed the british animation "Simon in the Land of Chalk Drawings", which was later parodied on SNL by Mike Meyers. Maybe Mike was watching romper room, the timing is about right.
- the "teacher-lady" (Molly McCloskey) was super-nice and fun to meet in person. i remember being amazed that she looked the same in person as she did on TV.

  • Hi Geoffrey: This is so cool! This is Ms. Soco. Most of the tapes were erased so it's really a treat for me to see you. You were such a cute little guy! Thanks for posting this and sharing it. Yes, it was just as much fun for me too. Cheers, Socorro

  • @LAmediamaven1 Thanks for writing! I googled and found several photos and videos of you, and it looks like you were a pretty awesome hostess. Cheers on your success and keep in touch!

    -Geoff

  • thanks! did you see in the end where i copped a feel of the cute girl?

  • Have you had that way with women throughout your adult life?

  • yes, even to this day, when i meet a charming young lady, i show her that i am glad to make her acquaintance by shooting my hand out to her chest.

  • I loved Simon in the Land of Chalkdrawings. It was originally shown during tea time in the UK and also as part of Bill Crosby's Pinwheel and Romper room. Amazing how it got used in different tv shows. Well you know my name is Simon lol

  • I am from the very LAST generation of Romper Room viewer in Australia. No one younger than me knows what it is :(

I hope to have some tapes to show my children. Fortunately, I have 3 episodes.

  • very nice video......but who the hell is this guy?? is he a frauline nie?? i dont get it.

  • A woman called Irene who came with her guitar Every Friday to my School (john swett Atlernative) had a guest spot on this show way back in 1985 or early 1986. I was in the second grade. My memory is Foggy if it was this host or if we still had another "Ms Nancy" still hosting the show. (each location had a different woman I've heard) In my sister's times of watching her "Ms Nancy" was Blonde with a hair cut like Mrs Brady in the first episode of the Brady Bunch
