@TeephRhetoric - well I guess that settles it then..

@merelyateacher Hey I'm not exactly sure what makes you think that hip hop is pop, but you're comparing apples to toilet paper. They're not even remotely similar. In fact, fundamentally, they're polar opposites. The difference between the two is the difference between the profound and the superficial. It's the difference between vegetables and candy. Hopefully that'll help you understand because I don't have enough characters to explain
-
@merelyateacher no its not. your logic is pretty flawed bruh.........
-
@tripo4389 well put man. This clown has a wide variety of arguments logically proving him wrong, but he keeps comin back for more! bahaha. Oh well, we'll just have to keep teaching this "teacher" till he understands what's up
-
@tripo4389 firstly you need to check your definition of Acronym. Secondly, lets say for eg the Beyonce/Bieber/Usher etc had recorded all their tracks but chose to never release them or show them to anyone. In this instance these records would've never been heard on the radio or in 'mainstream culture' and would therefore by your definition not be pop music because they did not achieve popularity, By this example we can see that the definition of pop has nothing to do with how popular it is !
-
@uknowo - i don't understand what your saying ? read it back to yourself. particularly when you say
"your definition of Pop is ANY major or dominant culture vs the general mass market mainstreaming and one stop- 7/11 culture". Where does the versus come into it ? What are you saying I'm saying ? Confused...
-
@merelyateacher Your definition of Pop is correct but no one knows what your saying when your definition of Pop is ANY major or dominant culture vs the general mass market mainstreaming and one stop- 7/11 culture; You never made the difference
FYI : the best teachers make learning fun and easy.

The word "POP" is actually an acronym for Popular reffering to the "POPULAR CULTURE" or "MAINSTREAM" so if mainsteam culture isnt listening to this as in like being played on the radio then its not pop ok? Damn it!!!

@merelyateacher This is not "basically pop"....a structural similarity can be found if you excise its segments and place them in a formula.....but a similarity in structure to pop music does not make it pop music. Your logic fails when you consider the fact that 90% of hip hop music follows the intro, verse, chorus, verse, chorus scheme. By your logic, almost all underground hip hop is pop. This is completely untrue. Don't speak on things you know nothing about son.

@merelyateacher Hip hop is not a style of the pop genre, and the difference is not merely stylistic. Even if the difference is stylistic, when it comes to artistic expression, stylistic difference is huge. I don't know how much clearer i make this...I honestly think you are making a huge stretch by saying hip hop is basically pop.
