I first heard this song in 1982. It was recorded by a good friend of David Rodriguez'...Shake Russell. Shake did a great version too. David lived in and around Austin Tx, for many years and I got to know him when I lived there in the early 90s. He is a remarkable guy who helped me out when I was in a bad spot.....David is also an attorney. I sing this song when I play out.....I am awe inspired to hear Lyle do it. Wow....

Sometimes, a song and its singer are melded together into a combination that can't be beat. Though others sing this song well, no one in my opinion does it quite as well as Lyle.

Sublime. That's all I can say.

@TheCindella2 You said it. I've never listened to this song just once, always at least twice. I like seeing the look on the face of someone who's never heard it when I put the record on. They always lean toward the speakers while I tilt my head back and close my eyes and smile. And when I say "Mind if we hear that again cause its just so damned good?" they just smile and say "Sure". God bless David Rodriguez for writing it and Lyle for doing it.

One of the most beautiful songs ever written. Thank you for this.

Lyle Lovett= Country music's last hope.

@To3by Amazing man, Lyle is. This song touches me in places I had forgotten I had. Thanks for posting! Lyle rocks!

funny how we long for inspiration......
This is a superb piece of writing from David Rodriquez. Lyle has brought so many underappreciated songs (and songwriters) to life with his vocals and instrumentation.

You`re welcome. Lyle`s always great I think, but this particular concert was particularly wonderful I think.
