The last time I saw this bug was more than two decades ago. Every time I've remembered this, I've wanted to recreate it, but I was hampered either by the fact that I forgot about it before taking the initiative, or by the fact that for a large chunk of those two decades, NES emulators with playback didn't exist.
Notice that the death tune is played twice, though the first time its instrumentation is changed slightly due to the sounds from the bridge interfering. I got a hard laugh out of this the first time it happened because I was so dumbfounded. It helped that I was about six years old at the time. This is probably where my love for video game glitches started.
Im pretty sure the second time the tune plays is because you find a fucking toad instead of peach

There's also sort of a "continuation" of this glitch. If you do this while you're big, you'll start the next world big but the game acts as if you were small. So when you grab a mushroom, you shrink and when you get a fireflower, you'll be small but have the fireflower colours, it's actually pretty funny :D
