Is Max capable of loving someone? Why is he such a twat? At least he & his flat mate are good friends. What does he mean by it's his turn? Does he expect to find a lover the way he acts?

I can see Ian's returning home to be a dad, but does he have to marry a girl he doesn't really love? He needs to do what he says he's going to—tell her the truth. I'd like to think that Max underestimates Ian's ability to be true to himself, but he may be right. Is Ian's paying the restaurant a good or bad sign?
