There are 6 chests that contain a possible Dark Matter. This video shows all 6.

1) The Stillshrine of Miriam - Cold Distance.
"This is a secret area that is hidden behind a wall that you can walk through"
100% Chance of spawning. Guaranteed item. 50% chance of Dark Matter WITHOUT Diamond Armlet. 10% chance of Dark Matter WITH Diamond Armlet. NON-Repeatable!


2) Sochen Cave Palace - Falls of Time
"You must do the Waterfall Puzzle to reach this chest. his video shows you how to solve the puzzle. "
80% Chance of spawning. 90% chance of item. 50% chance of Dark Matter WITHOUT Diamond Armlet. NON-Repeatable!

3) Henne Mines - Special Charter Shaft
"You can go through the Zodiak battle area as a shortcut. if you haven't beaten him, then you must take the long way around"
40% chance of spawning. 80% chance of item. 100% chance of Dark Matter WITHOUT Diamond Armlet. NON-Repeatable!


4) Henne Mines - Special Charter Shaft
"This time the chest is closer to the entrance of the long way, which is actually the short way this time."
55% chance of spawning. 72% chance of item. 50% chance of Dark Matter WITHOUT Diamond Armlet. REPEATABLE!


5) Henne Mines - Phase 2 Dig
"This chest is just as easy to get Dark Matter from as #4 and is closer to the save point."
55% chance of spawning. 72% chance of item. 50% chance of Dark Matter WITHOUT Diamond Armlet. REPEATABLE!


6) Tchita Uplands - Uazcuff Hills
"This is the hardest chest to get Dark Matter from. It has the lowest chance, but it is WAY safer then Henne Mines."
10% chance of spawning. 50% chance of item. 50% chance of Dark Matter WITHOUT Diamond Armlet. REPEATABLE!


Well, those are the 6 Dark Matter chests. If you are trying to get a lot of Dark Matters, I would highly recommend #5 if you can get past abysteels. If you can't, then go for #6, as it is the only non-Abysteel chest that is repeatable.

TIP for Abysteels: Make sure you have bubble on. Then, just turn battle speed to lowest and old the flee button down.

NOTE: Once you reach Order of Ambrosia clan rank, you may purchase Dark Matter from the clan provisioner for a measly 2 gil.


Dark Matter are charged up using Knot of Rust and can be charged up to deal a whopping 60,000 damage. Be warned though, they take a LONG time to charge up.

@MrJerichoCross Dark matters do damage according to how many knot of rusts you used, if you used enough knot of rusts, a dark matter can break damage limit and doing around 60,000 damage.

@MegaObey Yeah i know, but the shell shield is very rare and this is an easy way to get a second. Dark matters are not all that rare compared to the shield. I actually use them in certain challenges.
