UPDATE: March 30, 2010: I'm sad to say that Holly died on Sunday March 28. My thoughts are with her family and friends. She was a wonderfully strong person and I'm glad I had the brief opportunity to know her.

*********

Holly Bartlett has a huge personality inside her small frame. She works full-time, takes Master's classes at night, volunteers and takes part in a wide range of activities from public speaking to swing dancing. She refusing to let being blind stop her from living her life.

In this film she talks about the adjustments she's made to compensate for her vision loss, and the tricks and tools she uses to perform the daily tasks most people take for granted, from checking her email to learning the office layout on her first day of work.

Holly's room mate, and friend of 10 years Andrew, offers a personal view of Holly. These two know each other so well they even tell the same story of how they met. Andrew can understand Holly's frustration in dealing with people who assume little of her because of her disability, he uses a wheelchair and gets many of the same reactions from strangers.

Sights Unseen is not about a heroic young woman overcoming a disability - it's about a normal young woman living a busy, but normal, life.

  • how did she die?

  • @AmericanIdolQueen84 "We believe what had happened is that she died of a result of a fall on her way home," said Const. Brian Palmeter. "At this time, we do believe it was an accidental death."

Police said earlier that Bartlett was slightly hypothermic, but they don't believe she was in the water." Credit: CBC

"Halifax Regional Police say it appears that a blind woman who was found unconscious under a bridge fell off a path after becoming disoriented. Holly Elizabeth Bartlett, 31, was discovered Saturday under the A. Murray MacKay Bridge. She died later in hospital. Police said Bartlett returned home by cab around midnight. They don't believe she was on the bridge.
