  • A hailstone fell in Coffeyville, KS on September 3rd, 1970 that was 5.7" in diameter and 17.5" in circumference. That was the record until June 22nd, 2003, when a hailstone fell in Nebraska that was nearly the size of a soccer ball. It was 7" in diameter and had a circumference of 18.75".
