The international space station's newly installed solar wings are getting stretched. Astronauts aboard the orbiting station-shuttle complex started unfurling the two wings late Friday morning, by remote control. (March 20)
I'd rather they spend tax dollars unfurling wings than bailing out fat cats on Wall Street. Even if the wings served no useful purpose, which I'm sure they do in some twisted alternate universe.
Compared to science fiction, our space devices are at the level of sticks and rocks. How easy will all that be, after a couple of critical techniques have been developed, such as anti-gravity, space elevator or mass teleporters. One day they could build solid walls in the orbit and they will just forget these shacks.
Fascinating. (Raises eyebrow like Spock.)
