Near Miss Sat 3rd

** 28/7/09 - good news, read last para.**

This incident occurred Saturday 3rd Jan at about 1.10pm on Ballan Rd between Werribee and Bacchus Marsh, heading towards Bacchus Marsh.

We were on 4 bikes, riding at about 100Km/h when we were overtaken by a red Hyundai Excel (?) As soon as that car had overtaken me at the back on bike #4 I was overtaken rapidly by a white Ford AU Series II or III (?) which was catching up to the Excel. To make things interesting there was another car approaching on the other side of the road. The Excel pulled in safely in front of Beth on the C50 (bike#1), but the Ford didn't have enough time and after some hesitation, cut in in front of Bill's Valkyrie (bike #2) narrowly missing him by a couple of metres. The oncoming car had to brake heavily to avoid a collision and had virtually come to a stop by the time I passed him. The idiot in the Ford then overtook Beth over double lines and on a corner, then disappeared rapidly into the distance.
Fortunately it was all captured on video for your entertainment. Sorry, the image is a bit wobbly, the road was a bit rough there. Lots of lovely wind noise too.
It's idiots like this that should be taken off the road and shot. Dangerous driving, too fast, crossing double lines etc. It's a pity we couldn't get his number.

Thanks to the Vic Police for the effort they put into analysing the video and chasing up the offender.

Thanks for your efforts in nabbing this clown. Can you tell us anything about the software you used to clean up the image, and how clean it turned out? It's been bugging me for ages. I had a bit of zoom on the camera which exaggerated the wobble...

Sorry....can't. I can tell you that it was done at the Vic Police Forensic Science Centre but I didn't ask what software they were using BUT, I did get still images of all vehicles except for the oncoming 4x4, so it is pretty good. Mark 1 up for the good guys!!!

I think all learner drivers should be made ride a moped for a month, most car drivers suffer from lack of concentration and are unable to read the road. If you are a biker you bloody well learn that skill quick !
