That animated eye logo was used for a few years in the mid and late 50's and was last used about 1960.

The guy who said "This is CBS" back in 1989, BTW, was Alan Berns, who had been with the network since 1959.

The famous "animated shutter" version of the eye logo in the 1950s and 60s. Off network-delayed broadcasts by CBS used this as the closing end tag.

Yes, I have seen the one you're talking about. Those are Pennsylvania Dutch "hex" signs I think. I know what you mean. Curiously enough, I think of those as very nice things to have around and not at all scary!
It used to freak me out when I was a kid. I love it now.
