@hoovernj I could only really point to Genesis 1 & 2, although I'm not a Bible scholar or anything... But I'm sure scripture could affirm the following:

"God is infinite, the utterly sufficient All. ... Not only did creation provide nothing that His nature needed... It brought Him no profit, no increase, for there was nothing in it that was not already in it that was not already in Himself in greater, because uncreated, perfection. Why, then, is the created universe here at all?

@hoovernj loving life is definitely a Christian calling! Life is a gift from God. It would be nonsensical to despise this gift. We should, however, not be attached to this life on earth and to worldly things. Please do not use Bible passages out of context!!
