@zetasan Politeness is just different in different societies. You may find it hard to find the Japanese type of politeness in America, but there's certainly a lack of some American politeness in Japan.

They should have sumo wrestlers more often. He doesn't dick around, precise and to the point, yet so polite. And for god sakes give him bigger portions.
-
Go Chen!!
-
I have to say the smile on the challengers face makes me want to visit his resturaunt. yes, he might have stumbeled with the main ingredent but in his own kitchen I'd bet his food is marvelous :)
-
Chen is a bad ass, one time he had this about 2 feet diameter wok pan full of some sauce and he threw it in the air flipping the whole god damn sauce! Not one drop of the sauce went to floor
-
The sumo is quite articulate,.
-
13 point difference in favor of Chen? That has to be the biggest gap I've ever seen on the show. But, it says something about Chen's abilities.
jeez, they're really socking it to the challenger

If a judge gives many more points than a chef actually deserves just to be nice to the person, s/he should be disqualified as a judge. Politeness wasn't the factor in this case most likely. if anything, it was pity or compassion.
By the way, you are wrong in implying that "politeness" may be hard to find in western culture.
You find it everywhere in the world.
