If my children decide not to like jazz, I'll beat them with knowledge

Great tune to learn from. Easy to learn the head and the changes. Best way to incorporate it is to transcribe it yourself. Don't rush; do maybe a phrase or two a day. Look at how he plays over the chord changes. His scale choices and his little turns of phrase are an entire course in jazz. Good luck.

forget beating them with anything but the beat. If yr lucky, they'll end up beatniks and then you can plan to spend yr retirement years supporting them while they keep the beat alive. trust me: I am yr children, and I am you, too - been both. it's a good life, but you got to remember to swing or it's all just talk, dad.

Yep, it's never too soon to start. There's some great vocabulary in this solo.

I learned it by ear, and I don't usually write transcriptions down, so I don't actually have it on paper. I know it's a pain and can take a lot longer, but I highly recommend doing it by ear because when you are done it will be well ingrained, you will spend more time getting inside his sound/articulation, and you will feel great about your accomplishment once you can play the whole thing.

Are you learning by Ear or with a transcription?
I'd really like to get my hands on a transcription if and knows of one..
