GOLDIKOVA (Freddie Head/Olivier Peslier) made it a perfect ten Group 1 victories with yet another dominant performance in the Prix Rothschild at Deauville on Sunday.
The supermare was bidding to emulate the great Miesque as the only European-trained horse to have won ten times in the highest grade since the introduction of the Pattern in the 1970s - and she did it in sensational style.

  • French is not such a romantic language.

    Anyway Goldikova said, SEEE Yaa

  • 14th G1 for the wondermare Goldikova, queen of the mile, (and 100th G1 for Olivier Peslier)!!!!

  • When they raced as 3yr.old's, Zarkava pretty much picked Goldikova up and carried her on her shoulders. But in fairness, Goldikova became better as she got older, IMO. Her 2010 season was probably the finest of her career. Not sure if they would've ever met again even if Zarkava had stayed active because of her stretching on out to 1-1/2 to win the Arc De Triomphe? But it would've great to have seen the two racing in each other in 2009 and 2010. JMO.

  • Still don't understand the strategy that Music Show's connections used in this race? Music Show had just won the G1 Falmouth Stakes at Newmarket prior to running in this race. She won the Falmouth by laying back off of the pace, then coming with a late surge to go to the front. I guess, perhaps, Music Show's jockey felt that being out in front of Goldikova in the Prix Rothschild may have been the only chance his filly had of upsetting Goldikova in this race?

  • @kelletman, 110% correct my friend. I think it would still be fair to say that Zarkava is one of the greatest turf fillies that ever raced in Europe. But so is Goldikova. And, as you said, with what Goldikova has gone on to accomplish post-Zarkava. She stand's in no other horse's shadow. IMO.

  • @GBeret83 I agree, Zarkava won all he races apart from 1 at longchamp but goldi as gone and proved her self on many tracks, some people keep on comparing Goldikova with Zarkava, but Goldikova is not the same horse that raced Zarkava as a 3 year old and as proved her self one of the best milers of all time and does not live under any horses shadow over a mile.

  • Goldikova is just in a league all her own. There's no other way to say it. Time after time, she steps on the racetrack against other horses that are multiple stakes winners, and fantastic horses in their own right. Then Goldikova set's about making them look absolutely ordinary. You know Music Show's connections had to be feeling great. After the quality field of fillies and mares she'd just beaten in the G1 Falmouth Stakes. Then she comes to France, and get's destroyed by Goldikova.

  • @kelletman, I'll say this. As she got older, Goldikova became just as big a legend as a miler, as Zarkava became as an unbeaten 3yr.old over multiple distances. I'm not saying Goldikova had gotten better than Zarkava. But her legend had swelled to the level of Zarkava's legend. Even if Zarkava had raced past her 3yr.old season? I doubt they'd ever have dropped her back down to a mile or 9 furlongs again. After winning the Arc at 12+furlongs. So I doubt we'd ever have gotten to find out? JMO.

  • GBeret83. I think Goldikova would have beaten Zarkarva over a mile at 4 or 5 years of age, too bad we will never Know. Rainfall beat Free Judgement by 9 1/2 L yet FJ was only 3L behind Clanford Cliffs in the Irish Guineas, the form of Goldikova last G1 race is rock solid as you pointed out.

  • I had seen Music Show beat a very good field of G1 and G2 winning fillies and mares in the Falmouth Stakes less than a month before this race. Special Duty, Lahaleeb, and Lillie Langtry. All G1 winners. Spacious and Strawberrydaiquiri, G2 winners. Rainfall, a G3 winner. Plus, Spacious and Gile Na Greine had both ran 2nd multiple times in G1 races. Music Show powered from the back of the pack to beat all of these fillies and mares. Then, Goldikova makes beating Music Show look just effortless.
