Cynthia Nixon: Gays Don't Want to Redefine Marriage

"Sex and the City" star Cynthia Nixon weighs in on the gay marriage debate. "Gay people who want to marry have no desire to redefine marriage in any way," she says. "When women got the vote, they did not redefine voting."

Cynthia Nixon is an actress who has won two Emmy Awards, a Tony Award, and a Grammy Award. Last spring, at a gay-marriage rally in New York, she announced her engagement to Christine Marinoni. Last fall, she spoke at the National Equality March, in Washington, and this year she has devoted much of her time to Fight Back New York, a political-action committee whose sole purpose is to unseat New York State senators who have voted against marriage equality.

To every person who says, "Yeah, but homosexuality isn't natural and isn't about reproducing." I say "since when has marriage been about naturalness or reproduction?" If it weren't for your narrow views (mostly religiously made narrow), you might realize that marriage is about a relationship between two people. When you deny the privilege of marriage, you deny the relationship.

People who are called 'homosexual' ( a clinical term) in their aim or orientation are a considerable minority and have the right to intimate recognised legal or blessed civil unions alongside the tradtional norm of 'heterosexual' marriage whether that's religious or secular , defacto couples could have the choice to make a committment. Societal integration or even child rearing adoption then would be safer.She makes a succinct point or two here of the fear stategy oft' raised by conservatives.
