--- Here's some interesting history on this song : When the album "Infidels" came out, Bob had a rehearsal and recording studio (with a work-out weight room) in Santa Monica. Just adjacent to it he had established a small business...an orange juice hand-press used to produce bottles of OJ which he labeled and distributed locally. He even used to work the O.J. press himself sometimes.

At that time, he was driving a snazzy metallic-burgandy-red '63 Cadillac El Dorado coupe convertable...which, no doubt, many of his hangers-on considered a vanity...but it sure was a cool looking ride.

The song is written as though not by Dylan but one of his employees at the studio (maybe his daytime bodyguard). The juice press is down for the night and the Boss (Dylan) has driven north to his Malibu diggs in his stylish, if vain, pimpmobile. The bodyguard sings his song to a "sweetheart" who is hanging around the studio.

You bet "you have to be an important person to be in here"...it is, after all, Dylan's studio. Yes, for sure, many ambitious people will "crawl accross cut glass to make a deal" in the world of savage show business. It is almost as though someone as sweet as this girl doesn't even belong or fit in this ruthless environment. What, indeed, IS she doing there? Maybe she has a crush on Bob's weight-lifting bodyguard, or just wants to use the work-out facilities?

hey wade...thanks for the kind words...yeah, read my notes below the video...Bob was operating a hand squeezed orange juice business adjacent his studio...he used to squeeze 'em himself sometimes in the hand-press they used to make the juice...I think they called it "Santa Monica Orange Juice"..."pressure's down" doesn't make any particular sense to me...i'm going with "press is down"...they had shut down for the day, Bob had gone to Malibu in his El D...the employee sings to the girl... :-)

LOL - just kidding. From my experience, those lyric and chord books are always making mistakes...it's like they don't really want you to get it right unless you're smart enough to figure it out yourself. I understand your explanation, but I still think "tires squeal" is a stretch...but then, so is "empire squeals"...I just like it better...I hereby give you permission to believe what you want about the verse. No, no, don't thank me.

Thanks, max. I like my performance here a lot, but much credit must also go to orastory (andy) in Italy, who downloaded my solo performance and added the other instruments. I think he did an awsome job. I really enjoyed your song "Normandy Skys" and recommend your channel to others. I notice you did a song for gay rights. I am not gay, but stand in support of people's right to choose their own lifestyle. You might find "Ballerina Clown" (on my channel) interesting. Ciao :-)
