I heard her do this in concert in the 90s. About half way through her set the band left the stage, the lights dimmed with just a spotlight on Joan and she stood there and sang Mary Hamilton. At that point the evening went from truly great to transcendent.

I completetly agree with you. Sung this way it even moves me more than the way she performed it before, that's saying a lot considered how much I love her early work and younger voice...

No one can sing "Arise, arise" the way she does.

gives me shivers, this performance is absolutely stunning...! thanks for posting.

I was at this show and was blown away by MS Baez' entire performance...but this "Mary Hamilton" was about as stunning as any performance by any performer can be! You go girl! Happy 50th anniversary of singing!

Baez is always my Diva!!
Forever Baez - Wonderful Folk Queen~!!
Wow. Truly a voice that has stood the test of time. Just as effective in a lower register.
I wonder what she's thinking when she sings this... maybe about her early days? This is one of the first songs she ever recorded, even I get sentimental and nostalgic over it. Magical.

after 50 years, i find she doesn't lost a lot her voice. it's always beautiful. of course she can't sing as high than before. and agree i don't think she play any game lol
i cross fingers she said she will sing as long as she can stand and not loose her voice. i don't have the chance to see her on stage so she can't stop now because i must see her on stage lol. but her ticket is very expensive
