On October 16, NJPAC partnered with the NJ Music Educators Association to host a festival that introduced classical vocal techniques and repertoire to talented high school singers from across New Jersey who do not have access to private vocal instruction. Co-sponsored by the Urban Issues Committee of the NJ Music Educators Association and NJPACs Arts Education Department, the day included a performance by the Newark Boys Chorus, clinics by Professor Donald Dumpson, internationally recognized vocalists Lori Brown Mirabal and Gail Blache-Gill, and a mock-audition that featured two students from Newarks Arts High School, Caroline Braga and Marcelo Leal, and more. Bill McDevitt, President of the NJMEA, saw the event as a way to reach out to students that traditionally have not participated in Region or NJ All-State Chorus, either because of socioeconomic status or an absence of formal training.
