How do you avoid having the jugs fall off the tapping tube? Do you use something to connect them? I'm afraid the weight will pull my jugs off when I try it.

Nice, I'm gonna try it with the birch this year. Good video.

The amish are said to make pies from pokeberries and indians had methods for rendering out the poison from some plants. The solanine in potatoes as you know is in the green skins and isnt a problem if you peel them . Unfortunately the kennebecs i grow get green pretty quick

Great vid. I have some commercial taps and have meant to try it but never have. I like your way of making your own taps tho.BTW box elder pith is said to be poison not that i think you would have a problem unless you ate the pith.

I should have clarified myself a bit better. Thanks for pointing this out. Don't use poison sumac. We don't have much of it around here so I don't even think about it. This was Staghorn sumac that I used.
Poison is a relative term. Potatoes are poisonous, but for the most part people don't die from eating them. They are part of the nightshade family. In wild plant guides, they are better safe than sorry and call many things poisonous that really aren't..
