WOR-TV - Promo Set - 1986

These are a set of two promos from WOR-TV (now WWOR-TV) Secaucus, N.J./New York City, recorded on January 4, 1986.

The first is a double plug for "The Benny Hill Show" and "Bizzare", which shows the creativity of channel nine's production team as they spliced in scenes from other shows that were running on WOR-TV at the time. The second is a more straight-foward promo for "My Favorite Martian".

What is Bewitched doing in the first promo? Also in the first promo had the classic Dating Game, it's 1986 and its set with Jim Lange got cancelled. What's it doing there?

WWOR TV 9 Was Also The Home Of The Fun, Fun, Fun, FUNNNNNNNNNTASTIC World Of Hanna-Barbera!

WOR had a "barter" deal with the DFS Program Exchange (representing General Mills) to air "BEWITCHED", "I DREAM OF JEANNIE", "THE MONKEES", 'THE FLYING NUN", "GIDGET" and "THE PARTRIDGE FAMILY", which they distributed at the time. They got those shows free of charge, and only had to show two minutes of General Mills ads during each episode- the other four they could sell to local advertisers, keeping the profits from those.

Interestingly enough, before 1/6/86, WOR actually aired BH in the 7:30 PM slot (which was taken over by The $1M Chance of a Lifetime, hence the time change)...surprised they'd run his show that early!

I remember WORTV 9 NYC,

showing, Bewitched, I Dream of Jeannie,

Gidget, The Flying Nun, My Favorite Martian,The Monkees and The Partridge Family

during the Summer of 1984!

I use to watch those shows during my summer vacation from high school! Oh, the good old days!

Channel 9 in 1986, wow. I remember they'd play Monkees episodes, came on right after Gidget & sometimes after the Partridge Family. I'd come home for lunch & watch the Monkees. I have quite a lot of WOR's programming from 1986 since I taped all the Monnkees episodes from that channel from that year. Maybe someday when I have the means I can put them all on youtube, I have hours upon hours of WOR from 86.

It's too bad he's no longer with us. I'd love to hear him do V/Os for the current shows on WWOR. Imagine hearing him saying "Today at 5, right here on My9" during a Tyra promo.

Very creative on the Hill/Byner promo indeed...I've actually got it on tape from a 1/6/86 airing, during the premiere of The $1M Chance of a Lifetime (whose arrival gave WOR a whopping 3 1/2 hrs. of game shows daily!).
