Some cons I came across from my newly installed sport bars on my ninja 650r from www.ninja650shop.com.

Levers hit windscreen fully turned. Not everyone experiences this.

Backpack doesn't rest on the passenger portion of the seat anymore. I actually have to carry my own stuff? Maybe time for a tank/tail bag...

Leaning on the bars/locking arms to stay upright. Riding habit that I can hopefully get rid of.

That's really all I could think of for cons while commuting around. Some pros coming up in the next clip!

  • The best part of this bike is the upright riding position. I can't understand why people are buying these "sport bars" If you wanted an agressive riding positon race bike the 650r is not the bike for you. Are people buying these just because they think they look cool leaning over? obviously with the bars hitting the sheild these bars will not make it handle better and in a "commuting sense" I can't see any pros to having these bars on a 650r.

  • @rooster828

This is my first bike and I rode with the stock bars for a few months. If I went over 2hrs riding, I would find the seat to be uncomfortable, even unbearable at times. I was also suffering from wrist pains and the bars made it worse. Since switching, I've ridden over 4hrs without fidgeting my butt around and my wrist pains are gone. Does that make enough "commuting sense" to you? Perhaps altering something to fit one's personal preference is evil and everything aftermarket is crap?

  • mine hit too but they don't engage them.

  • @alehax27

My brake engages enough to light the brake light, and my clutch would engage if the engagement zone was a tad higher. But again, any situation where it's full left or right, I'll have both covered anyways...

Except locking the steering column. A whole new ritual had to be created to lock the steering column after I park :/ Meh, the pros while on the bike definitely outweigh the cons when off :P

My brake lever hits but doesn't actually turn on the brake light. I think yours turns on the light because you have the tubes inserted a bit further into the clamp than I do. I have both tubes flush with the clamps.

  • @alehax27

We tried everything to clear when we installed the bars, but no dice. I then pushed the tubes in further since it was more comfortable for me and wouldn't matter either way.

  • @ilikadapai well put!!

  • When I ride I have a vans backpack with a chest strap that keeps the bag right on my back and doesn't wiggle around

    Maybe give that a try

  • @rooster828 not all of us are comfortable sitting upright like that. I had a CB650 nighthawk and its riding position is identical to the stock 650R. After 80 miles my entire body would get sore.

When i switched to my 500R (lower seating position, but not as low as a supersport) I discovered I can make it 200+ miles comfortably.

These bars put the bars at just about the same height. A little different, but similar.

Take a stock 650R on a 200+ mile trip and see how comfortable it actually is.

  • @rooster828 I've had my 650r for about one year now and my opinion is that while freeway riding or at least going faster speeds I prefer to lean on the tank, this becomes difficult to me with the stock handlebars. I have longer arms and this may contribute to the problem, my arms feel cramped and it becomes quite uncomfortable after only a short time. I actually can't wait to install my sport bars.
