ORIGIN Systems - Ultima 1: FAoD (Quest + Death!)

Quest for the Gelatinous Cube!

This is another short Ultima 1 video. Including my character Sporkin's spectacular demise!

No worry though, the game plops you outside with 99 hitpoints and 99 food (but strips away your armor and weapons, at least I still had my aircar).

Your goal in Ultima is to stop the evil wizard Mondain, the only way to do that is to get four gems (by completing the Kings' quests), traveling into space, killing 20 pilots there to become a space ace, coming back to earth, saving a princess (from a Castle no less, like her own father imprisoned her or something), having her tell you about a time machine (yes, a god damn time machine) and then traveling in time to defeat Mondain with the gems.

Here I'm going on the quest to kill a Gelatinous Cube for the Castle of the Lost King.

Yeah, if you're not looking for it, it will kill you pretty quickly since it's so hard to make it out at cursory glance.

True Story: My favorite fantasy monster is the Gelatinous Cube.

I miss the sci fi aspect. I started with Exodus, which other then the fact that they wink-wink-nudged-nudged the whole "Exodus is a computer and the cards are punch cards" thing, the game was 100% medieval.

Yes Exodus the computer, they actually changed that in later games. A lot of the time NPCs would refer to Exodus as though it was a demon or something. I had no clue why they did that, perhaps they felt it was silly. I liked it though.

Well, for the medieval people an computer could be a daemon. Even for my parents the computers sometimes look as monsters ;o)
