@dcprez What kind of champ declares that he has to get his opponent in the ring at less than 100%? Hagler? Hearns? Duran? Ali? Frazier? Who builds a strategy around fighting a guy who isn't at his best? I'll tell you who, a guy that knows he can't beat the other guy if he is at his best. It's chicken shit, it isn't honorable and he bought his belt back...no wonder Ray was a mess and had to quit boxing, he screwed himself, mentally. Ray took fights only if the other guy was washed up

@dcprez The only reason the fight happened just 5 months after the 1st one is because Ray got what ever he wanted because america needed Ray to be the 'new' Ali. When Ray lost, america cried. So, Ray had the 'powers that be' behind him to get the deal done and Duran got screwed. That's why Duran said FUCK IT and threw up his hands, he knew he had been screwed in New Orleans. Ray got the big ring, 5 months after 1st fight, Ray Charles, the whole 9 yards. It was a screw job 100%.

@dcprez I'll put it this way.....Ali beats Foreman and Ali wants to take some time off in between his next fight. Foreman, see's Ali enjoying his time off and goes to Don King and flashes huge money at him to make Ali fight in a couple of months. Don King does everything in his power to convince Ali's corner to take the fight. Ali is then forced by his own people to fight. Ali isn't mentally ready or physically ready and come into the fight not even close to his best. SINCE WHEN?

@blite13 So rather than question the integrity of the then champ (Duran) who failed to train and prepare as a honorable champion should; choosing to eat and fraternize his days away.. You all choose to focus on how the top contender (Sugar) could dare take advantage of this glaring negligence on Duran's part..? Yea, that makes a lot of sense. smh
If you're the champ, conduct yourself accordingly. And if you fail to do so, someone else will certainly take advantage of your carelessness.

@LarS1963 If you think they fight just for money....whatever. The top fighters fight for honor and to be the BEST. Duran despised Leonard because he was given top dog honors without earning it. Duran had 70 fights by the time he met Ray and he owned his division for 10 yrs before he met Ray. He saw Ray getting all the press and glory while Duran was treated like an afterthought. This is why Duran was so motivated for their 1st fight, he wanted to show the world who was #1, not money.

@blite13 Honour? They were pricefighters. Amateurs fight for honour, professionals for money. Why did Duran despise Leonard before the first match? Because Leonard was payed five times as much, that's why. Duran threatened Leonard, Leonards familiy and friends, in order to get under his skin. And he succeeded.
So Leonard planned his revenge carefully and succeeded with that in turn. And since he obviously have profound respect for Duran, he's rightfully proud he managed to defeat him.
@sirulrich2331 Bullshit, you on crack? Pacquiao couldn't hold Roberto Duran's jockstrap. Duran had better footwork, head movement, defense, power etc. Even Freddie Roach (Pacquiao's trainer) said Duran would whoop Pacquiao's ass. Bitch Ass Filipino, when's the last time Pacquiao fought a prime fighter who's not weight drained or coming off knockout losses?

How can Ray, today, still brag that he whipped Duran? He obviously was not facing the Duran of the 1st fight because, as Ray says himself, tried to catch him out of shape. That is not facing the best, that is trying to fight someone who isn't at their best, where is the honor in that?
