AgustaWestland video of the Novemvber 12, 2009 maiden flight of the AW159 mult-role military helicopter, and upgrade of the Westland Lynx. Two more test aircraft will fly in 2010 and deliveries will begin in 2011. The UK MoD has ordered 62 AW159s as the Lynx Wildcat, to enter service with the British Army in 2014 and Royal Navy in 2015. Visible changes include the new strengthened tail and uptruned exhausts for the more powerful CTS800 engines.

  • I would die a happy man if I got to fly in one of those

  • Nice updated Lynx..would look great with some weapons like the Apache

  • Its no Apache but give a HE firing cannon and a few guided rockets and you have a lean, mean green flying machine. Lovley aircraft, love it!

  • Lynx wildcat is also an anti ship helicopter. USA is supposed to be thinking of copying its role due to the threat of many islamic fanatic small boats threatning it's ships.

  • what an amazing helicopter I was there when they were building this because my dad was one of the people who helped build it so he was probably watching this. I've sat inside and the seats and belts are a lot like cars and have 4 screens with thermal cameras like on a police copter loved the video and love the wildcat:D

  • @carfraec

    TOW is obsolete as a weapon now.. the wildcat will be used in conjunction with Apache in the battlefield

    it will be armed with door gun's for personal protection & top cover

  • @raynkar

    Wildcat - ISTAR / Light utility

    Blackhawk - Medium Utility

  • @BattleRavens41

    there a completely different class of helicopter..

    lynx - Light utility (transport) ,Caz-evack (get up and go evacuation), Recognisances & communications, Attack (Anti tank / top cover) {not so much anti-tank now)

    the UH60 Blackhawk - Medium utility helicopter (transport), Med-Evack (treated in the air - airborne hospital of sorts), minimal communications usage.

    compare the Blackhawk to the sea-king Sea King Mk4 or the merlin

  • I love the lynx and blackhawk but people argue that the blackhawk is better than the lynx, but they are both EQUAL because they have been both been designed to meet the needs of their contries.

    USA =Large country= Big Army

    UK =Small country=Small army

    Lynx = Small helicopter

    Blackhawk = Large Helicopter

    The lynx is more suitable for britain as it is small enough to fit on small ships where as the seahawk is too big and heavy.

    But tbh, it would make more sense to buy both.

  • Do not confuse Wildcat with previous Lynx variants, they are VERY different animals.
