oh sure - I consider it a hobby but I could push it and get an ounce a week if I had the desire.

Interesting way to save time and effort on panning out the heavies. This wouldn't be iron filings though. Metallic iron would rust away quickly. This is magnetic black sand, it is a common and natural iron oxide mineral. Called magnetite.

right - for the most part the heavy elements are removed by the magnets and this allows the riffles to catch the gold much more effectively. As seen in my other video, the gold is clean in the riffle, which means less work processing after.

none - the magnetic materials are extracted before they get that far down the sluice pan.
