Clare, I'm glad to hear that you're OK as I rode past your accident and saw you being attended to by the ambulance crew.
I also hate that junction although it's not as bad for me as I stay left on the (very narrow) cycle lane and head up New Bridge St. Another bad feature is the left slip road onto Embankment as you are very much dependent on left-turning motorists seeing you.
Hopefully once they finish the Blackfriars station redevelopment, they'll remodel the junction with cyclists in mind.
