Hmmm...That's Vince...he was weak, Miles fired him.

@videolover61 Drummer ain't perfect, but if you listen at the end he starts mixing it up.
-
@proctor940 many jazz players who don't play "everything" have trouble with funk and soul feel!
-
The drummer actually is fooling alot of you guys. He is using a funk science. Similar to Jerome Bigfoot Brailey - who was also let go from P Funk. They are delaying the - 1- and not accenting the hihat but letting the hi hat ride. Miles is one of the greatest but Funk has a serious dragginf feel to it. I think the drummer did a great job. Problem is jazz ears have a hard time understanding hardcore Funk. He put too much funk into the feel.

I would not hire him cause he was my nephew, cause his drumming stinks! The music comes first...tell him to work in a drum shop cause he aint a player!
-
@tiluriso Thats got to be an example of what Miles meant in his autobiography when he said he sacked his nephew for "always dropping the time" Im not a musician but ive noticed it on several live recordings from 85'-86'.
-
yes eventually i read in his book that he had to give his nephew a chance and he later gave him the boot because like you said he kept dropping the time.
-
ya his nephew definitely drops the time, that's why Miles got rid of him
This opening riff was originally part of one of the song's on Miles' " Jack Johnson " album from 1970.
