Start listening to the song itself: 2:45
For some time now, I wanted to track a chiptune and do this under one hour. I also wanted to record a movie of me doing this. People have asked for this, both to see that I can do this, but also for them to learn from this. :)

With that idea, I started to work on this song. You can see the entire making of from start to end. The entire duration is 55 minutes and 45 seconds. I had to cut the movie in parts because I cannot upload more than 10 minutes to youtube.

If you want to download the song (both mp3 and source) or want to view a list of all the video's, visit this link: http://lpchip.com/modplug/viewtopic.php?t=3505

As always, I really do appreciate feedback and ratings.

  • I've been thinking of doing this for a while in Milky tracker. Whenever i use a tracker with a lot of features and options, (such as renoise, jeskola buzz etc) i always end out spending too long mastering it instead of just creating more MUSIC. I might try this on the weekend :)

  • Thanks :)

Making chiptunes certainly is a different kind of art than other music. Of course its a music style like any other, but you need to understand the idea behind chiptune music in order to actually make good music. Its not just about making combinations of sound sounding good, but understanding what the limitations were back in the days and try to squeeze as much out of it as possible. This is actually where appregio's come from and the usage of multitone melodies.
