A cooked turkey is traditionally the focal point of a Thanksgiving dinner. Smoking your turkey adds a warm, moist flavor to the meat and does not take longer to cook than traditional oven roasting. While you will need a a smoker for optimal results, you can use the smoker to cook other meats throughout the year for other treats. You can customize the flavor of your turkey by opting for different types of wood chips. Consider hickory smoked wood for a traditional smoked flavor. You can also modify the liquid you add to the smoker to adjust your turkey flavor. Be forewarned that once you start smoking turkeys, you may be starting a new Thanksgiving tradition.
