Scenes recorded from the cabin of NSW Rail Transport Museum locomotive 3526 as it races Powerhouse Museum loco 3265 in the 2011 Hunter Valley Steamfest "GREAT TRAIN RACE" on Sunday April 10th, 2011.
I like how australia can fit in a heritage train race, whereas network rail can barely fit in a 1 hour circular tour! Perhaps the Aussies can teach the Brits a few things about how to run a railway!
@lizrulz1 - not at all. The coal is burned to generate heat, which then boils water that has been pumped from the tender. Water on the coal does not generate more steam at all. It never even enters the area of the boiler where steam is produced.
Rather, watering the coal helps to keep the coal dust from swirling around inside the cab.
