@hcorderhelp Nobody is questioning that there wasn't already methane in the water. The question is... why did no one's water well blow up before? And has hydrofracking opened up new pathways for new sources of methane?
Research out of Duke suggests that there are new sources of methane in groundwater near frack sites. I know that the industry has worked hard to discredit Duke, but their attacks are pretty weak. Duke has found the methane has a new chemical signature. It's compelling.

If you listen to the video carefully the water was flammable before the drilling started. The guy who blew up his water with a cigarette while trying to make coffee - "That's how they discovered there was gas here."

Norma Fiorentino's house is considered a CRACK house by the locals. this is all bullshit.

Oh i am sorry haven't you looked at their website? they are a clean company looking in our best interests. (idiot). People need money in these hard economic times. the only way you get water from them is to have gas contamination. if it is from their slurry which supposedly contains cancer (Halliburton) and other life threatening compounds only stands up in court if you catch it in 6 months. figuring you paid 1000$ for a 1 year test.

I am thoroughly disgusted by this. I'm in Delaware and the powers that be now want to drill in our watershed, too, which supplies New York City, Philadelphia, half of Jersey and most of Delaware, which would leave millions of us with this kind of water. Even one person with this kind of water is too much! Wake up, people.

My friend, I humbly submit that one does not have to be a "tree-hugging idiot" to not want a bunch of shit all over the place (whether above or below the surface of the ground).
-
you know none of you people had to lease your land to the Oil
co.s But it seems that everyone had their hand out . you thought that it was easy money and the drilling would not take place. now that it is you all belly ache about it. did you ever stop to think of how much money is being poured into this arean not only from the oil co.s but from all the workers it takes to do the job. it might be a good thing if you would try to work with the oilfield . quit listening to the tree hugging idots.

@CleanWaterActionPA OK, sorry, just couldn't tell from the video. I'm glad she's aware of it.
It's gotta be awful to live with poisoned water. And she's right-the gas companies are to blame, they know they're to blame, they could afford to give her water-but they just don't care about anything except their profits.

@electricmeg Well, we'd love to get you plugged into the statewide networks that are working on this issue. We are working to coordinate all the folks on the same team. We don't know any groups in Sullivan, tho, so it would be great if you contacted me. 215.545.0250. Ask for Brady Russell.
what she doesn't seem to realize, and what the DEP and the gas companies certainly aren't telling her, is that it's not just gas in her water (as if that isn't bad enough) it's also fracking fluid. Gas doesn't cause white foam like what she described. Her water is contaminated with the carcinogenic chemicals used in drilling. this is insane. the gas industry needs to be stopped before they cause any more devastation.

um you know cabot drilling gives most of their clients (including this one) water tanks. and she's a client, not an innocent bystander. she signed a contract that she should have read. and usually people are paid or receive free gas (useful in these cold winters). and if you need me to explain that drilling thousands of feet into the earth may compromise your existing well.. i dunno what to tell you.
pennymaple 2 years ago
@pennymaple The water tanks are only good for drinking water. And it took 9 months to even get those. Cabot REFUSED to replace water for a very long time. You should check your facts. It was only after DEP filed judgement that they gave anyone water. At a private meeting with the residents, Cabot said there was nothing they could do to convince the company to provide replacement water.
Even with the water buffaloes, they still have to shower and wash in this nasty water.
