For someone to be able to remember all the possible outcomes of an entire game of chess surely they need to be intelligent? you obviously know what your talking about so i'm not saying your wrong but it surely would benefit the player to be intelligent.

Chess requires rote memorization of movesets, not intelligence, which is why computers are good at it. Shogi and Go are both orders of magnitude more complicated, and thus more difficult for non-human players to master.
